KONZA TECHNOLOGY CITY
Client: Pell Frischman/ Urban Graphics
Location: Nairobi, Kenya
Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, we helped to prepare an illustrative masterplan for a new city in Kenya to be located 60Km outside Nairobi.
Konza is a mixed-use, high-density, walkable city. Konza aims to create a liveable, sustainable urban environment that promotes high-value development and curbs urban sprawl. The planning draws inspiration from successful global urban centres while being tailored to the specific needs of Kenya and the region. The master plan provides a framework for a city that operates effectively both globally and locally, now and in the future. The Masterplan integrates vital principles of liveability, density, and walkability.
The master plan employs a ‘radial’ design encompassing various zones, such as a university, residential areas, science and technology hubs, and office spaces. It also focuses on a high-density central business district as a city-wide focal point. The master plan also includes a series of neighbourhood parks strategically located throughout the city and linked by green boulevards incorporating public transit corridors.
